Sydney 2050 Net-Zero Emission Buildings Target Fast Tracked to 2040

Fantastic news was announced today from the Lord Mayor of Sydney. The 2050 target for net-zero emission buildings has been brought forward to 2040. This will present it’s challenges for industry, however it’s a challenge we will embrace with open arms!

The new targets were announced on the 5th of February 2020 through Lord Mayor Clover Moore’s official social media accounts, stating:

‘’We’re bringing our net zero emissions target forward a decade, from 2050 to 2040! It’s not going to be easy, but while the Federal Government continue to fail us, we will be getting on with the job of responding to the climate emergency. It’s our responsibility to do all we can to reduce emissions steeper and sooner. The accelerated target will form part of the City’s new long-term strategic plan, Sustainable Sydney 2050 – we’re seeing the proposed environment and resilience components of 2050 this Council cycle, and will have the whole plan endorsed by Council mid-year’’

Aspire is delighted to be a part of this huge challenge for the city of Sydney, and beyond.
